Exactly one week ago, I was in a waiting room of a certain building and a woman got in. Her baby was in a stroller so she preferred standing & because it was crowded up ahead, her other kid, a 4-year-old girl, looked at the empty spots &then sat on the one next to mine. I hate kids the moment they start talking but she was quiet so I was quite cool about it. So we sat next to each other &went through some time waiting for our turn to get the fitness. Suddenly I felt tiny pappi on my arm &immediately looked down to see that cutie kissing me for NO REASON AT ALL. 5 mins later, a tiny hand creeps up around my arm &there she is, with her hand wrapped around mine. And before I could even absorb what was going on, she’d leaned her head against my bazoo &was humming away. Anyway, soon her mom starts to get ready to get off &calls her out. But when she hadn't replied for a few seconds, I looked down & saw the little lollipop fast asleep, wrapped around my arm. I died, then slowly nudged her, she woke up in a daze, saw her mom & sleepily went to her. Her mom mouthed a ‘sorry’ & I was like 🤗 We shared a long-distance smile & waved goodbyes & that was that. But it was just amazing how that 15 min with that little girl left me with so much. You know, that blind trust & innocent faith we all have in other humans when we’re unjaded and young. And that we lose with time because life makes you cynical or someone betrays your trust. Over the years, I’ve realized how important it is to protect that very softness in your heart. Not for anyone else but for who you are and how you live *your* life.
